I was there as a: Overnight RV'er, Family with children

Our family of 5 camped at Golden Pond (2017 summer) because it looked like the best place for kids near London (a short drive for us & London has tons of family things to do). Golden Pond ended up being a mixed bag. It was extremely clean, no litter, bathrooms & facilities & pool all spotless & great condition. It has a very cool playground with both newer wood jungle gyms & cool retro stuff you rarely see like see-saws & big tires. My kids loved it. The grounds are nice & the staff tried to be helpful. On the downside, this campground is clearly mainly for the seasonal campers. During the week most of the place is dead, store & restaurant is closed. No activities for kids, & we missed the 1 weekly wagon ride on our check-in day Sat. Each time we wanted to do something (mini golf, pedal cart rental, paddle-boat rental) we had to hunt down staff then wait ages for someone to unlock it or whatnot. I think we were only one of 2 overnight campers (we stayed for a week) so I understand you can't pay for staff on these things during quiet weekdays... but it gave the impression that we were on our own. Some bigger annoyances could be easily fixed: the coin-op showers take loonies but some designs of loonies don't work & I misunderstood the sign. Ended up outta change, the store was closed (as usual) & I had to wrap my dripping, shampoo-filled hair in a towel & go back to my trailer & finish in there. I was ticked. The next day the front office, to my surprise didn't have a supply of loonies for us to buy. Replace those coin-op machines asap! Also 1 loonie needs to last a bit longer. Pool was ice-cold. Get a solar blanket folks. The mini-golf had a hornet problem. Most worrisome... the playground has an opening in the fence directly to the lake. Please, please put a child proof gate on the park side of the lake fence! Can't comment on the restaurant, we never found it open when we wanted to eat there. Store did not have basics like milk or bread. All in all, it was clean & nice... but luckily we were mostly day-tripping in London.
